photo_jayJay Marks is an independent copywriter and marketing consultant with more than 30 years of experience in business-to-business, healthcare and consumer marketing.

An advertising agency veteran, Jay has provided advertising and marketing counsel to national and international clients including Warner-Lambert, RJR Foods, Dr. Scholl’s, John Deere, Johns-Manville and Gates Corporation, in addition to numerous small and mid-sized companies.

Jay writes sales letters, brochures, articles, press releases, ads, newsletters, audio and video scripts, white papers, case studies, Web sites and other marketing materials clients need to sell their products and services to businesses. He also consults with clients on marketing strategy, and writes marketing plans.

In the healthcare industry, Jay has conducted research, written market analyses and opportunity assessments, developed integrated marketing and communications plans, developed positioning and branding recommendations, and written marketing communications materials for Web, TV, radio, print, outdoor, transit and direct mail.

Prior to becoming an independent copywriter and consultant, Jay was an account manager for advertising agencies in New York (J. Walter Thompson), Chicago (N.W. Ayer) and Denver. He was also a creative director/copywriter for Medimetrix, a healthcare consulting firm.

Jay holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Stanford University and a graduate business degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management. He is a member of the Business Marketing Association (BMA), where he served as Colorado Chapter president and chair of the certification committee. He is a recipient of the Communicator of the Year award from the BMA Colorado Chapter.

As Director of Corporate Communications for Thomson/Micromedex, a national healthcare information services company, Athena spearheaded a major branding initiative, developed marketing/promotional plans and communications strategies for healthcare markets in the U.S. and internationally, and managed the implementation of marketing and promotional strategies across a wide spectrum of channels and media.

As acting CEO for SOS Healthcare Staffing, Athena managed new business development, marketing and recruitment for this healthcare staffing agency, a client of The Marks Group. She repositioned and re-branded the company, developed new clients and lines of business, streamlined operations, increased recruiting and grew revenue by 43% in a six month period.
